Harness Cycle is a beat-driven, feeling-based cycling studio in the heart of Ohio City's Hingetown neighborhood.
We've been here since 2013: woman-owned, rooted in community + endlessly committed to raising the bar for what movement in Cleveland can look + feel like
made for movement. built for cleveland.
how it started
Anne at the first Hingetown studio.
Harness Cycle was born from a conviction: that this city deserved a movement experience built on community, not just cardio.
Founder Anne Hartnett started building it with a Wednesday night running group and a no-frills pop-up studio on West 25th Street in 2013. It was a couple dozen bikes, two curtains and the beat.
Week after week, classes sold out in minutes. That momentum compounded and carried Harness into its first permanent home, built with real intention — and in large part, real hands. Andy Hartnett, Anne’s husband and a Cleveland firefighter, physically constructed so much of Harness, from the very first coach’s stage to the spaces that hold the soul of everything Harness is today.
creating a community anchor
Hear the story from Anne herself. On the Lay of the Land podcast, she shares how she navigated the challenges of opening a new business, turned a construction delay into a community-building moment and discovered that Harness' truest purpose was to be a neighborhood anchor for an inspiring generation of Clevelanders.
the journey so far
at home in hingetown
Our studio lives inside The Vitrolite, a 1926 landmark on Detroit Avenue that's been reimagined as one of Hingetown's most vibrant gathering places.
Originally built as a showroom for the Vitrolite Glass Company (known for its Italianate arches, white facade, and Art Deco opaque glass details) the building was restored in 2022 by HCO Partners with a vision rooted in community.
method behind our movement
Plenty of fitness experiences tell your body what to do.
Our approach: ask how it feels.
Feel Good is Harness Cycle's signature method — our feeling-based coaching philosophy that shifts the focus from how a workout looks to how it feels in your body. Instead of chasing numbers or mirroring shapes, we guide riders inward:
Toward breath, effort, sensation + presence.
When movement is rooted in feeling, something shifts. The ride becomes less about performance, more about connection. To yourself, to the music, to the people in the room around you. That's what we're here for.
our coaches
They're curators, leaders, community builders. And every coach at Harness Cycle has come up through our Feel Good Certification.
It’s our rigorous, immersive training program built around our feeling-based coaching philosophy. They master the elements that shape every ride, and the craft of moving a room together with intention.
Our coaches show up for our riders in a way that's hard to explain until you experience it. Book your bike + find out.

As with anything, it depends on the person. We have many pregnant women who ride up until their due date. We recommend always listening to your body and consulting your doctor prior to riding.
